hygiene and preventative dentistry

Why is it important to visit the dentist every six months? Well, how often you have your car serviced? If you've just bought a new car you would take it in to see a mechanic at every service interval required right? Right! You want to protect the investment you have made. If you didn't have your car serviced regularly it would run poorly and any potential problems wouldn't be identified and caught sooner. Eventually it would require repairs and the value of the car would decrease, so in the long run,  it would cost you more. These are the same reasons why you should visit the dentist regularly.

Not seeing a dentist could potentially cost you more money. You need to have the dentist check that everything is 'running right' in your mouth. If you have a cavity and we catch the decay early, then it can possibly be treated with a simple filling. However, the longer you leave it, the worse it can get. Which means you may end up needing more complex and costly treatments.

Oasis Dental patients receive regular check-ups from Dr L while they are having a thorough clean and polish with our hygienist. So what is a hygienist? A hygienist is a university trained clinician who works with the dentist to provide more specialised oral care and oral hygiene education. A visit to the hygienist may include:

  • Treating and preventing gingivitis and periodontal (gum) disease
  • Routine dental cleaning of the teeth and gums, maintenance and x-rays
  • Education and implementing personalised home care routine
  • Whitening
  • Stain removal to brighten your smile
  • Bad breath solutions
  • Nutritional advice for healthy teeth and gums
  • Product advice

Visiting Oasis Dental regularly also protects your investment of any cosmetic or restorative treatments by ensuring longevity and restoring them to their original lustre with a clean and polish.
